FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What makes celebration dog training different from other dog training companies?

Since 2013, Celebration Dog Training has helped thousands of dogs become well behaved and beloved members of their families.

Our positive reinforcement methods, fully customized training plans, and strong commitment to client care set us apart. We encourage you to check our five star reviews on Google, Facebook, Yelp, and other platforms.

  • What training method do you use?

I use positive reinforcement as the foundation of all training. This means rewarding desired behaviors with treats, praise, or play to encourage the dog to repeat them. Rather than punishing mistakes, I use refocusing and redirection techniques to guide dogs toward more appropriate choices.

This method builds trust, strengthens the bond between dog and owner, and helps dogs learn in a way that feels safe and encouraging. Refocusing helps shift a dog’s attention away from unwanted behavior, while redirection gives them a better option to follow. These strategies are especially effective for creating long-term behavioral change without fear or stress.

Each training plan is tailored to the individual dog’s personality, needs, and environment, ensuring the most effective and humane approach possible.

  • Why do you offer group classes and private lessons?

Only experienced trainers can maintain structure and safety in a group setting with multiple dogs. Our group classes are capped at seven dogs to ensure that each one receives appropriate attention and learns how to socialize and respond in a real life setting.

Group classes are held outdoors to promote focus and real world responsiveness. Private lessons are necessary for behavioral modification, and they are ideal for first time dog owners, puppies with incomplete vaccinations, or clients needing more flexibility in their schedule.

  • Why do I need private lessons for behavioral modifications?

Obedience training focuses on teaching commands and manners. Group classes can help with minor behavior issues through general exercises and recommendations.

However, more serious behaviors such as aggression, reactivity, nipping, biting, anxiety, and excessive barking require one on one attention. These cases need to begin with private lessons to ensure the undivided focus of the trainer.

  • Do you offer online and phone lessons?

I believe that a hands on approach delivers the best results for dog training and behavioral modification. For that reason, I do not typically offer online or phone lessons.

However, I do provide an initial free phone consultation. In rare cases, I offer video lessons for clients who live out of town and are unable to attend in person.

  • Why do you offer training packages?

Dogs don’t speak English, Spanish, Italian, or any human language. They learn through repetition. One lesson is not enough to bridge the communication gap between dogs and their humans.

Each client must begin with a package of private lessons or group classes. Single private lessons can be purchased later by established clients to supplement ongoing training or as a refresher. Continued training reinforces learning, keeps skills current, and prevents regression.

  • What is the ideal training path for a puppy?

The ideal training path for a puppy begins as soon as the puppy arrives home. Puppies can begin learning at 8 weeks old, though they are not fully vaccinated at this age. I recommend a package of four private lessons to start.

Once vaccinations are complete, your puppy can join a basic obedience group class. Intermediate classes should follow. If issues arise during the second fear period (typically between 6 and 14 months of age), additional private lessons may be needed.

Most training should occur during the first year and early second year to build good habits and prevent future behavioral issues.
